Strategic Leadership for the Leading Tax Service Provider

alliantgroup maintains a very active Strategic Advisory Board whose members – all renowned experts in their fields and top business minds – bring their own unique experience and expertise to alliantgroup. These individuals provide invaluable service to alliantgroup and its clients.

Philippe Camus (Technology, R&D)
Philippe Camus is currently Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alcatel-Lucent. He has served as co-Chief Executive Officer of the European Aeronautic Defense & Space Company (EADS), of which Airbus is a division, and for many years as senior management for both Lagardère SCA and Caisse des Dépôts. Additionally, Mr. Camus was designated an Officer of the French Légion d'Honneur and received the Cross of the German Merit Order. He is a graduate in economics and finance of Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris, a graduate in physics of Ecole Normale Supérieure, and holds a doctorate degree in actuarial science from the Institute des Actuaires.

 

John T. Dillon (Manufacturing, Services)
John Dillon most recently served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of International Paper. His current affiliations include membership on the boards of directors of Caterpillar, Inc., DuPont, and Davis Petroleum Corp. He serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of TestEquity, LLC. Throughout his professional career, Mr. Dillon has served as Chairman of the Business Roundtable, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the National Council for Air and Stream Improvement, Chairman of the Board of the American Forest and Paper Association, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Council on Economic Education, and member of the President's Advisory Council on Trade Policy and Negotiations. Mr. Dillon received his master's degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business.

 

Hon. Mark W. Everson (Vice Chairman)
The Honorable Mark W. Everson served as Commissioner of Internal Revenue from 2003 until 2007. Prior to joining the IRS, Everson held Bush administration posts as Deputy Director for Management for the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and Controller of the Office of Federal Financial Management. Everson also served in the Reagan administration, holding several positions at the United States Information Agency and the Department of Justice. In the private sector, Everson served as Group Vice President of Finance at SC International Services, Inc., a $2 billion food services company, and as an executive with the Pechiney Group, one of France's largest industrial groups.

 

Former Missouri Governor & Senator Kit Bond (Senior Advisor)
With more than 40 years of public service, Kit Bond joins alliantgroup's team as a Senior Advisor. Bond brings his experience as Missouri State Auditor (1971-73), Missouri Governor (1973-77, 1981-85) and as Missouri Senator (1985-2011) to the table. He served as Chairman for the Committee on Small Businesses and Entrepreneurship and as Vice Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee. He earned a reputation as a skilled statesman able to build coalitions and work across party lines to achieve results. He has long been a leader in the effort to expand economic opportunities for American companies and institutions in the global economy. Born and raised in Missouri, Bond graduated Cum Laude from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University and received his law degree from the University of Virginia.

 

Former Congressman Jim Ramstad (Senior Advisor)
Jim Ramstad is a Senior Advisor for alliantgroup, based out of Minnesota, and served as a Member of Congress from Minnesota from 1991 until 2009. He was a Member of the House Ways and Means Committee, and Chairman of the IRS Oversight Committee. Jim also co-chaired the Addiction Treatment and Recovery Caucus, Disabilities Caucus, Law Enforcement Caucus, and Medical Technology Caucus. Former Congressman Ramstad was chief co-sponsor of the landmark Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Parity Act, which became law in 2008. Jim was named “Legislator of the Year” by the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Addiction Counselors in 1998, by the National Mental Health Association in 1999, and by the National Association of Police Organizations in 1997 and 2000. Ramstad is also the 1998 recipient of the Fulbright Distinguished Public Service Award. 

 

              

Bobby Kocol (Business Strategy)
Bobby Kocol has more than 27 years of experience, most recently with StorageTek, where as Chief Financial Officer he helped orchestrate StorageTek's acquisition by Sun Microsystems in a $4.1 billion deal. During his tenure, Kocol was the primary interface to the financial analyst community while he directed and managed the financial planning for the global operations of a $2 billion business. He was instrumental in developing corporate strategic plans, successfully implementing effective internal controls over financial reporting in line with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements, and drove significant financial improvements since his appointment as the CFO in 1998. Bobby also has worked for Documation and General Motors in various positions. He holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Florida Technology University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Mississippi State University. 

 

Allan D. Koltin, CPA (Tax Practice, Finance)
Allan Koltin is a founding member of The Advisory Board, a think tank to professional and financial services firms. A nationally recognized author, speaker, and industry analyst, Mr. Koltin has appeared on the CNN, WGN and FOX television networks and has been quoted in most major news and business publications. He has spoken internationally at hundreds of conferences on topics such as leadership, mergers and acquisitions, professional practices, federal taxes, business valuation, litigation support, women's initiatives, and practice management. Mr. Koltin is the author of two books for professional services firms: CPA Firm Merger Strategies That Work and CPAs That Sell. He also edited the AICPA's book, Marketing a Consulting Niche. Mr. Koltin is on the editorial advisory boards of Accounting Today, Law Firm Management and CPA Practice Management Forum. He is annually named by Accounting Today as one of the most influential people in the profession.

 

Len Schutzman (Business Strategy)
Mr. Schutzman has more than 30 years experience as a senior financial executive at several industry-leading companies. He served as Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer at Pepsi Cola International, Senior Vice President and Treasurer at PepsiCo, and the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Frito-Lay. In addition, he served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Triad Capital Corporation, an investment company that specializes in financing small and minority-owned businesses. He has also served on the Board of Directors for Cendant Corporation and Twin Labs, and was Chairman of the Board at SkyAuction.com. Mr.Schutzman is a CPA and holds a Bachelor of Science from Queens College and a Master of Science from the University of Rochester. He is also an executive professor of business strategy and entrepreneurship at the University of Rochester's William E. Simon Graduate School of Business.

 

Dean Zerbe (Tax Policy)
Dean Zerbe is alliantgroup's National Managing Director based in the firm's Washington D.C. office. Prior to joining alliantgroup, Mr. Zerbe was Senior Counsel and Tax Counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance. He worked closely with then-Chairman and current Ranking Member of the Finance Committee, Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA), on tax legislation. During his tenure on the Finance Committee, Mr. Zerbe was intimately involved with nearly every major piece of tax legislation that was signed into law – including the 2001 and 2003 tax reconciliation bills, the JOBS bill in 2004 (corporate tax reform), and the Pension Protection Act. Mr. Zerbe is a frequent speaker and author on the outlook for short-term and long-term changes in tax policy, as well as ways accounting firms can help their clients lower their tax bill. He holds an LL.M. in Taxation from NYU and a J.D. from George Mason University.
