alliantgroup’s John Dies Named to ABA Captive Insurance Committee

HOUSTON, Sept. 8, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — alliantgroup is proud to announce that John Dies, alliantgroup’s Managing Director of Tax Controversy, has been appointed to the American Bar Association’s Captive Insurance Committee.

“I am honored to have been selected to the ABA’s Captive Insurance Committee,” said Dies. “The captive insurance space, specifically in the area of micro-captives, is undergoing major compliance changes and people will need to have the most up to date information in order to plan accordingly. By joining the committee, it is my hope to increase the awareness of the benefits of micro-captives and help taxpayers understand the steps they should be taking to ensure everything is done by the book and in line with IRS guidelines.”

A seasoned trial attorney, Dies brings to the committee years of first-hand experience in representing and working with taxpayers on micro-captive insurance compliance. He is a prominent figure in the captive insurance and tax communities, and has been featured on the topic of micro-captives in publications such as BNA, Accounting Today and Captive Insurance Times. In his new role with ABA, he will be using his immense knowledge to further educate taxpayers and their advisors on emerging trends in the captive insurance space.

In addition to his extensive work in this area, Dies is also a key leader for alliantNational, alliantgroup’s Washington, D.C. based office, where he counsels CPAs and their clients on other tax advisory matters. Prior to joining alliantgroup, Dies was a former partner at a respected litigation firm in Houston. He has a JD from the South Texas College of Law.

John Dies is one of the premier voices in the area of captive insurance and one of the foremost leaders at our firm,” said Dhaval Jadav, alliantgroup CEO. “I am proud that the ABA has put him in a position of leadership on an issue that I know he is passionate about. I’ve worked alongside John for years and seen him work tirelessly for the good of our clients. He will absolutely bring that same level of commitment to the committee.”
