alliantgroup to Host Free CPE Webinar on Reserve Mechanical Ruling

HOUSTON, Aug. 7, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — In the wake of the U.S. Tax Court’s decision in Reserve Mechanical v. Commissioner, alliantgroup will be hosting a free webinar today at 12:00 pm CT to discuss the long-term implications of the ruling on the captive insurance industry. This webinar will qualify attendees for 1 hour of CPE (Continuing Professional Education) credit.

The presentation, “Judicial Action: New Tax Court Ruling Affects the Future of Captives,” will be co-hosted by former IRS Acting Commissioner and alliantgroup National Director of Tax Steven Miller, alliantgroup Managing Director of Tax Controversy John Dies and alliantgroup Senior Associate Attorney Meeren Amin.

Expanding upon last year’s ruling in Avrahami v. Commissioner, the U.S. Tax Court’s decision in the Reserve Mechanical case mirrors much of the precedent set in Avrahami, but expands on a number of items not addressed in last year’s pivotal court ruling. During the webinar, our experts at alliantNational, alliantgroup’s Washington national office, will cover what is happening in the micro-captive insurance space with a specific focus on how Reserve Mechanical’s findings will influence the IRS and the future of the industry. Additionally, the alliantNational team will discuss the steps that those involved in the micro-captive insurance space should be taking to ensure future compliance.

“The Reserve Mechanical case addresses a number of items not discussed in last year’s Avrahami ruling, and it is of the utmost importance for our clients and partners to remain up to speed on the most current precedent,” said alliantgroup CEO Dhaval Jadav. “I encourage our CPA partners, micro-captive insurance managers and agents and anyone involved in this space to attend this webinar. My colleagues Steven Miller, John Dies and the rest of our alliantNational office are among the foremost experts in this area.”
