Former IRS Senior Advisor to the Deputy Commissioner Catherine Barre Joins alliantgroup’s Strategic Advisory Board

HOUSTON, TX. FEBRUARY 18, 2015 – alliantgroup is proud to announce the addition of Catherine Barre, former Senior Advisor to the IRS Deputy Commissioner, to the firm’s Strategic Advisory Board. An executive with over 20 years of experience in both the public and private sectors, Barre will be working with the firm’s alliantnational office in Washington D.C. Barre will be leveraging her experience for the benefit of CPAs and U.S. businesses, offering her counsel regarding Treasury, IRS and overarching tax policy issues.

During her time in public service, Barre established herself as a foremost authority in tax policy. From 2011-2014, Barre held her position as Senior Advisor to the Deputy Commissioner for the IRS, U.S. Department of Treasury. Barre also previously served as a Tax Counsel for the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, where she was intimately involved in the development of tax legislation.

In addition to her tenure with the federal government, Barre has had a long career in the private sector as a legal, financial and business management consultant. From 2007-2011, she was the Director, Associate General Counsel and Tax Counsel for Legg Mason Global Asset Management, a Baltimore based global investment management firm. She was also an Associate Counsel for the Investment Company Institute and an Associate for the international law firm Covington & Burling LLP. After receiving her degree from the Wharton School, she began her career as a CPA in public accounting.
